James Alvero Fulgham passed away on March 7, 2022. James A., as he was known to family and friends, was born on April 8, 1927 in Maben, Mississippi. He lived in the Center Grove community for 94 years and was a member of Center Grove Baptist Church.
Mr. Fulgham is survived by six children, daughter, Carolyn Webster, son Michael Fulgham (Rhonda), son Steven Fulgham (Julie), daughter Cindy Casteel (Steve), daughter Debbie Threet (JR) and daughter Amy Lasky (Paul), twelve grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild and one sister, Deleslyn Dakin (Cameron).
He was preceded in death by his parents Alvero and Myrtle Fulgham, his wife, Doris Pennington Fulgham, son in law, Rev. Dr. Wayne Webster and six sisters.
James A. graduated from Maben High School. After high school, he joined the Navy and was stationed on the aircraft carrier, Kula Gulf, during WWII. He loved showing pictures of when he was in the Navy and joked that he could still fit in his uniform 70 years later. After the war, he attended mechanical technical school in Prairie, MS. After finishing school, James A. worked at Slaughter Chevrolet until 1971 when he opened his own alignment/auto repair business in Maben, MS. He retired on November 7, 2012.
James A. was happily married to his wife, Doris, for 64 years. They worked side by side, and never spent 24 consecutive hours apart in all those years. He was very involved in his community as a business owner and parent. He was elected to and proudly served on the Oktibbeha County School Board for 30 years. He enjoyed family vacations, 4th of July barbcues, MSU sports, playing cards and dominoes and gardening. He grew the best tomatoes in Oktibbeha County. He loved visiting with his many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled from 1:00-2:00pm and the service at 2:30pm on Thursday, March 10th at Center Grove Baptist Church, Maben, MS. Interment will be in Center Grove Cemetery immediately following the service. Rev. Steve Casteel and Rev. Thad Moore will officiate.
