Mr. David Neil Ikerd, 68, died Tuesday, August 16, 2022, at his home in Oxford, MS. David’s Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, September 1, 2022, at 2:00 P.M. in the Magnolia Room of the Oxford Conference Center.
David was born on July 9, 1954, in Clarksdale, MS to the late Willie and Ardelle Ikerd. Growing up in the Mississippi Delta, it held a special place in his heart and he always considered it home. David was an avid Mississippi State fan, but especially loved to watch the Bulldogs play baseball. He enjoyed being out in nature and days spent fishing with his friends. David valued his Christian faith, serving as deacon at First Baptist Church in Columbus and completing the Emmaus Walk with his late wife, Anne. It was through this special experience that they both strengthened their relationship with Christ and looked for new ways to serve the community around them. David was co-founder of Last House on the Block, a treatment and recovery community to help those struggling with addiction find true recovery. With empathy and patience, he was always looking for ways to help others. In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his wife, Anne Ikerd.
David is survived by his partner, Diane Capps of Oxford, MS; sisters, Cindy Ikerd Neumeier and husband, John of Maumelle, AR and Marilyn Ikerd Hobson and husband, James of Oxford, MS; niece, Page Burcham and her husband, John of Lewisville, TX; and two nephews, Robert Collins of Ridgway, CO and Randle Collins of Denver, CO.
Expressions of sympathy or memorial contributions in David’s memory may be made to Last House on the Block, P.O. Box 304, Columbus, MS 39702 or to Belen Baptist Church, 320 Peden Circle, Marks, MS 38646.
