Kathryn Herrod

Kathryn Jo Shepherd Herrod, known by most as Kathy, died August 26, 2022 at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo at age 73. She was born on October 31, 1948 in San Diego, California to Willard Lee Shepherd and Kathryn Josephine Norris Mullins. On May 10, l968, she married Willie Thomas “Pete” Herrod, a marriage of 54 years until her death. Kathryn was a member of Doty Chapel Baptist Church in Shannon. She loved crocheting and many other arts and crafts often tackling the task of learning new crafts. She spent most of her adult living in Rankin County Mississippi. She moved to the Okolona area in 2013. During her working life, she was a clerk for Southern Farm Bureau and retired after over 20 years of service. She continued to work in the bakery  at Jitney Jungle.  She was also a caregiver to her family and friends, never met a stranger and lived by the Golden Rule-“Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”

A service celebrating her life will take place at 10 AM Wednesday, August 31, 2022 from the Okolona Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with Bro. Steve Paul officiating.  Visitation will be from 5 PM-7 PM Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2022 and from 9 AM-service time Wed all at the Okolona Chapel (300 West Main St., Okolona – 662 840 5000).  A graveside service will follow at 3:30 PM Wednesday at Floral Hill Memory Gardens on Hwy 80 in Pearl, Ms.  Holland Funeral Directors is honored to be serving their friends.

Kathy is survived by her husband, Pete of Okolona; a daughter, Marilyn Gilliam (Dwayne) of Mendenhall, Ms and a son, Willie Thomas “W.T.” Herrod, Jr. (Christy) of Pearl, Ms.; 2 grandchildren, Christopher Silverman (Kimberly) of North Carolina and Cheyenne Lamon (Josh) of Mendenhall;  Her sisters, Willette Coker (Donald) of Brandon and Susan Jennings of Florence, Ms.  her beloved dog, Bear and 3 cats, Georgie, Gracie and Midnight;  several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Martha Wallace.
