Terry Scott Chambers cut a wide path in his 61 years with us! Terry died at his residence in Guntown from an apparent heart attack on Tuesday, October 4, 2022. Known far and wide simply as
“Country”, he was born to the late Charlie Chambers and Mary Earnest Chambers on July 1, l961 in Tupelo. He grew up primarily in the Valley Grove Community of Pontotoc County and attended Algoma Schools (now South Pontotoc), later finishing at Pontotoc High. A guy who was a master at woodworking and using his hands, Country spent a lifetime working in the building construction business. He worked over 15 years for F.L. Crane before retiring due to disability. Country was instrumental in the building of the Oren Dunn Museum in Tupelo. He was a woodwork arts and crafts designer and enjoyed local festivals where he sold his handy work. He did journeyman carpentry work for several years in the Venice, La. area where he became a cultural favorite to the locals there and became fond of catching alligators. Country loved animals and had about every creature known to man as a pet at one time or another including possums, snakes, coons, dogs and other vermin. Being a “dirt road sport” with an adventurous nature, he enjoyed grabbling in area lakes and streams. He enjoyed fishing and hunting in his earlier life and was always the life of any party. A Baptist, he was saved at a Apostolic Tent Revival held by the late Rev. R. J. Wilemon on the current site of Wildwood Baptist Church when in his youth.
A service celebrating his life will take place on Friday, October 7, 2022 at the Sadie Holland Memorial Chapel at Holland Funeral Directors-Tupelo. The singing will be delivered by Patrick DeVaughn, his nephew. Visitation will be from Noon-service time Friday only at the funeral home.
