Joe Ann Sumner, 84, passed away on Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at The Meadows in Fulton. She was born July 10, 1939, to H.L. and Lorene Tillman Gardner. She was a faithful pastor’s wife for many years, and she also worked as a teacher’s assistant at Saltillo Elementary School. She was an avid reader and coffee drinker, and talented at embroidering and cross stitching. She had a great sense of humor, and always had a positive and great attitude. She was loved by all that knew her.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 9, at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Mantachie with Bro. Arthur Wayne Gardner and Dr. Kenneth Pollock officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park.
Survivors include one brother-in-law, James Milton Jefcoat; two nephews, Terry Jefcoat (Theresa) and Arthur Wayne Gardener; three nieces, Twyla Eidson (Brett), Carole Pollock (Kenneth), and Teresa Farris (Dennis); a host of great nieces and nephews and other family members.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bro. A.R. Sumner; two sisters, Mary Alice Jefcoat and Jacqueline Barrow; a niece-in-law, Barbara Gardner; and her parents.
Visitation will be Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at McNeece-Morris Funeral Home in Mantachie.
