Kathryn Williams Wasson

Kathryn Williams Wasson of Starkville, age 101 entered the Gates of Heaven on Sunday November 19, 2023, at the North Mississippi Medical Center Inpatient Hospice. She was born May 30, 1922, the daughter of Willie Lagrone Williams and Lou Ester Williams. Kathryn received her undergraduate degree at Belhaven College in Music Education. She also received her Master of Education from University of Southern Mississippi where she went on to teach voice and piano for 40 years training and inspiring countless numbers of students at Mississippi State University.

Kathryn was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church in Starkville, MS where she was active in the choir and with the North Mississippi Chapter of Walk to Emmaus. She was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A special thanks to Mary Tate, Juanita Tate and Mary Robertson for their special loving care to Kathryn.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Thomas A. Wasson, Sr., and two sisters.

Kathryn is survived by her children; Thomas A. Wasson, Jr. (Janet) of Raymond, MS and Louis Wasson of Starkville; one grandson; Matthew Wasson (Leslie) of Gulfport, MS and their three children Andrew, Adyson and Emerson; goddaughter Gwyen Elizabeth Franklin of Fort Novosel, Alabama.
The family expresses thanks for the compassionate care she received from the staff at OCH and at North Mississippi Medical Center Tupelo – Inpatient Hospice Care.

Visitation will be held November 21, 2023, from 12-1:30 pm at Welch Funeral Home in Starkville, with a graveside service following at 2:00pm at Memorial Garden Park Cemetery. Rev. Jim Genesse will be officiating.
