Mr. William “Steve” Osteen, 73, died Saturday, December 9, 2023, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, TN. The funeral will be Friday, December 15, 2023, at 1:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Waller Funeral Home with Rev. Wesley Hughes officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 11:00 A.M. Burial will follow the service in Oxford Memorial Cemetery.
Steve was born on November 27, 1950, in Holly Springs, MS, to the late Frank and Velma Osteen. He graduated from Slayden High School in Slayden, MS, before being drafted into the United States Army. Steve took the call to serve with pride, moving with his wife to Germany, where he was stationed during the Vietnam War. Upon returning home, he began a career as a Supervisor with Coca Cola Enterprises. The work he enjoyed most was that found in his shop, where he could piddle for hours, working on various projects, vehicles, and small engines. His favorite thing to work on was his old tractor, which he kept going no matter how many repairs it took. Steve loved Ole Miss sports, but nothing brought him more pride than watching his grandson play baseball. A member of Calvary Baptist Church, Steve previously served as a Deacon, and held a strong faith and love for the Lord. He enjoyed occasional trips with his wife, Cathy, escaping on tropical cruises, or driving out west to admire the beautiful mountain landscapes. Though there were many wonderful memories made on these trips, Steve didn’t find the need to escape from his every day life often. He had all he needed right at home, and it was having his whole family together that meant the most to him. Nothing brought him greater joy that spending time with his son, Gray, and his grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Steve was preceded in death by his brother, Larry Osteen.
Steve is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Cathy Gray Osteen of Oxford, MS; son, William Gray Osteen and his wife, Tonya, of Oxford, MS; three sisters, Peggy Dawson of Holly Springs, MS, Martha Evans and her husband, Jimmy, of Potts Camp, MS, and Judy Nichols of Panama City Beach, Florida; and three grandchildren, Bethany Mills and her fiancé, Tyler Sharp, Dalton Osteen, and Cooper Osteen.
