Houlka, MS – Joe Ottis Tallent, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and member of the community, passed away on February 12, 2024, at the age of 79. Born on October 1, 1944, in Calhoun County, Mississippi, Joe was a hardworking and dedicated individual, leaving behind a legacy of resilience and kindness.

Joe was known for his passion for the logging industry, where he worked as a self-employed logger. With his strong work ethic, he contributed to the growth and prosperity of the community. Beyond his professional endeavors, Joe was a devoted family man. He cherished his loving wife, Norma Tallent, with whom he shared many years of joy and companionship. Their bond was a shining example of a true partnership built on love and mutual support.

Reflecting on his life, Joe Ottis Tallent found solace in his faith as a member of Rocky Mount Baptist Church. In his free time, Joe enjoyed indulging in his passions. His love for singing uplifted the hearts of those around him. He also found great pleasure in woodwork, harnessing his creativity to craft beautiful pieces with his own hands. He also had an adventurous spirit, always seeking thrilling experiences. He found excitement in stock car racing, motorcycle racing, and go-cart racing.

Those left to honor Joe's memory are his wife Norma Burt Tallent, of Houlka, MS; a daughter, Anita Ruth Tallent of Sarah, MS; a son, Donald (Denise) Tallent of Tupelo, MS; sisters, Barbara Dunlap of Bruce, MS, Joan Ratliff of Houlka, MS, Kay Newton of Gainesville, GA, Shelia McCain of Randolph; a brother Terry Tallent of Calhoun City, MS; grandchildren: Jodee Lenard, Devan Gordon, James (Jamie) Tallent, and five great-grandchildren.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents Henry Presley Tallent and Lautice Gregory Tallent, a daughter Tammy Jo Tallent, a brother, Bobby Tallent, and a granddaughter Tami Breana Gordon.

A public viewing to honor Joe Ottis Tallent's life will be held on February 13, 2024, starting at 5:00 PM at Parker Memorial Funeral Home. The funeral service, a reflection of Joe Ottis Tallent's remarkable journey, will be held on February 14, 2024, at 2:00 PM in the Parker Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Sam Yarbrough, Bro. Kevin Merritt, and Bro. Tim McMillen officiating. Burial will take place at Rocky Mount Cemetery. J. R. Hillhouse, Devan Gordon, Jodee Lenard, Freddy Tallent, Jamie Tallent, and Scott Tallent will serve as pallbearers.
