William L. “Bill” Denton

Mr. William L. “Bill” Denton, 94, died Friday, May 24, 2024, at Baptist Memorial Hospital North MS. The funeral service will be Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at 11:00 in the Chapel of Waller Funeral Home with Rev. Don Gann and Rev. Robert Allen officiating. Burial will follow in Oxford Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be prior to the service beginning at 10:00 at the funeral home.

Mr. Denton was born in 1930 in Delay, MS to the late Toy Short Denton and Mae Greer Houston Denton. He spent several years of his young adult life working for Denton Furniture Company in Oxford before beginning his career working as a supervisor for the City of Oxford street department, where he retired. He served his country in the United States Army in Korea where he was attached to the U.S. Air Force, Co A, 809 Engineering Battalion, and achieved the rank of Sergeant. He became a Christian at a very young age, and was a member of First Baptist Church of Oxford for more than 65 years where he served as an usher, Sunday School Teacher and a church greeter as long as his health permitted. He enjoyed the many trips he took with his church family on the First Baptist Church Bus Tours. Mr. Denton was an avid fan of Ole Miss sports and supported all high school sports. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Darthy Warren “Dot” Denton; a son in law, Ken Palmertree; four sisters, Betty Denton Johnson, Gwen Denton James, Juanita Denton Crowson and Mary Denton Johnson and a brother, Darrell Denton.

He loved his children, his grandchildren and his great-grandchildren. He is survived by two daughters, Donna Denton Palmertree of Oxford and Cindy Denton Misita and her husband, Michael of Oxford; a son, Walter Warren Denton and his wife, Vickie of Tylertown, MS; seven grandchildren, Michelle Ousley, Victoria Blum, Joseph Misita, Dustin Denton, Micah Misita, Raney Guerrero and Peyton Denton as well as ten great-grandchildren.
