James C. Johnson
James C. Johnson, 84, of Germantown, TN passed away at Methodist
Hospital-Germantown, Thursday, May 30, 2024. Born October 10, 1939, in
Pemiscot County, Missouri, he was the son of Cletus and Nellie Pierce
Johnson.
James is survived by his wife Linda Bishop Johnson who is a Baldwyn, MS
native. James and Linda have been residents of Germantown since 1989,
where they have been members of Germantown Baptist Church. He
volunteered every Sunday morning for a number of years in the foyer of
GBC.
James enjoyed playing golf at Windyke Country Club with friends. After
retiring from Helena Agri-Enterprises, having coffee every morning with a
group of his ‘Panera Pals’ was a must! Honorary attendants will be James’
Helena friends and his coffee-drinking buddies.
James began his adult life by serving his country in the U. S. Army. He was
stationed at Fort Polk, Louisiana and in Germany, before being honorably
discharged February, 1969. After his discharge, he began his life-long
dedication to the agricultural industry by working with Adkin-Phelps
Chemical Company, North Little Rock, Arkansas. Later he joined Riverside
Chemical Company’s Clarksdale, MS location. As time progressed, he
became president and co-owner of Rose Seed Company, Clarksdale.
As the business grew, Helena Agri-Enterprises acquired the company.
James remained with Helena, retiring in 2008 as North Delta Division
manager.
While in the agricultural industry, James was the 1979 state president of
the Mississippi Seedsmen’s Association and state president of the
Mississippi Agricultural Chemical Council in 1984.
In addition to his wife of 54 years, James is survived by his niece, Melissa
Hollingsworth of Eads, TN and his nephew, Terry Hollingsworth of
Memphis, TN.
He is predeceased by his brother, Billy Wayne Johnson and
2 sisters, Earlene Johnson Hollingsworth and Shirley Johnson Thacker.
Services will be held at Germantown Baptist Church Wednesday, June 5,
2024. Visitation: 10:00 -11:00 Service: 11:00 – 12:00.
Interment will be in Prentiss Memorial Gardens, Baldwyn, MS, where
James will join other members of Linda’s family.
James established the Linda Bishop Johnson Endowed Scholarship in
honor of Linda’s volunteer efforts at Blue Mountain College. In lieu of
flowers, donations may be made to the scholarship fund at the following
