Walter Joel Rose, Sr., 92, of Coffeeville, MS, a devoted husband, father, and dedicated Merchant Marine, passed away on September 16, 2024, in New Albany, MS. Born in Ultia, Honduras on July 11, 1932, Walter's life was filled with a deep appreciation for the past. He treasured collecting stamps, coins, and a variety of old and antique items, finding joy in the stories they held and the history they represented.
Having served in the Merchant Marines for an impressive 45 years, Walter's commitment to his work and his country never wavered. His devotion to his family was equally strong, survived by his loving spouse Elsie Ralston Rose, of Coffeeville, MS; sons Walter Rose, Jr., of Randolph, MS; Radford Rose of New Orleans, LA; Michael Rose of Saltillo, MS; and Edward (Patricia) Rose of Blue Springs, MS; daughters Daphney Howell of Ultia, Honduras, and Theresa (Terry) Sossaman of New Albany, MS; sister Mary Mancil of Mobile, AL; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
A man of simplicity and strength, Walter's legacy lives on through the memories shared by his family and the impact he made on those who knew him. A graveside service will be held on September 19, 2024, at Banner Cemetery at 10:00 AM with Bro. Truman Scarbrough officiating.
Walter was preceded in death by his father Edward Rose; mother Mary Gabrouel Rose; brothers: Richard Rose, Edward Rose, and Mitchell Rose.
