Marks was born in Newton, Mississippi, on January 30, 1948, and was the only child of Marks Whittle, Sr. and Daree Jenkins. Marks grew up with his family in Newton, Mississippi, and graduated from Newton High School. After graduating high school, Marks attended The University of Southern Mississippi, before moving to Oxford, where he graduated from The University of Mississippi with a Master’s Degree. He spent his entire career working as a Life Skills Instructor for the residents of North Mississippi Regional Center. Prior to working with individuals with special needs, Marks worked as an assistant in the missionary ministry. His Christian faith led him to a career of helping others. As a professional gun and knife collector, Marks enjoyed learning the history, culture and the way of life of the Western societies and lifestyle. He was an avid marksman and could spend hours teaching and sharing his vast knowledge of identifying firearms and their historical significance and value.

Marks spent his last few years living at Azalea Commons in Batesville, Mississippi. It was here that he was happy and well taken care of by friends and staff of Azalea Commons. Throughout his years, Marks held a special place in his heart for his cats, adopting and welcoming many into his home. He cared for each one with love and kindness, finding great joy in their companionship.

Through his church, Marks was blessed to meet his friend, Pete Trussell. The family would like to extend their gratitude to Pete and his wife for helping Marks through a difficult time during his transition to assisted living. Compassion and love were also extended by his dear cousin, Roxi Quirin, who spent a lot of time caring for Marks and supporting him. Marks was preceded in death by his father, Marks Whittle Jenkins, Sr and his mother, Daree Jenkins.

He is survived by numerous cousins and friends. The family and friends of Marks would like to thank Sandy Nix of Lott’s of Care and her team of caring companions for the excellent care and joy they brought to Marks during his time at Azalea Commons.
