Margaret Lynn Cullom Fields

Mrs. Margaret Lynn Cullom Fields, 98, died Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at her home in Oxford, Mississippi. The funeral will be Sunday, January 26, 2025, at 2:00 P.M. at Oxford-University Methodist Church with Rev. Chris McAlilly officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 1:00 P.M. at the church. Burial will follow the service at Surretts Cemetery in Arkabutla, Mississippi.

Mrs. Fields was born on September 6, 1926, in Nashville, TN, to the late Lee Rawls Cullom and Edna Viola Pitts. A Senior Administrative Secretary at The University of Mississippi for 38 years, she was known for her diligent work, attention to detail, and most of all, her kindness. She was an active and beloved member of Oxford-University United Methodist Church, where she looked forward to each week’s Double Circle Sunday School Class and served as secretary of the class for several years. Mrs. Fields gave back to her community through many civic involvements including serving as secretary, past president and district president of the VFW Auxiliary and as treasurer of the United Methodist Women’s Kate Guyton Circle. Most of all, she cherished her late husband of 53 years and their two beloved children. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Fields’ was preceded in death by her husband, Buford Allen Fields and her sister, Martha Jean Altfilish.

Mrs. Fields is survived by her daughter, Donna Fields Thornton of Olive Branch, MS; her son, John Allen Fields and his wife, Stella, of Germantown, TN; two grandchildren, Nicole Carver (Glenn) and Leslie Hall (Chuck); and four great-grandchildren, Jackson Carver, Caroline Carver, Jimmy Hall, and Abigail Hall.
