Denise was born on July 20, 1949, in Richmond, Virginia, to the late Juanita Elizabeth and Dalison Ervin Harris. In 1999, she married her beloved husband, Larry, relocating to Kansas before eventually settling in Batesville, Mississippi. Together they made many precious memories traveling around Europe, and enjoyed many beach vacations to Galveston, Texas and Virginia Beach.
As an administrator in healthcare, Denise advocated for patients and was known for reliable and diligent work. She put those same talents to work in her church, serving in many leadership roles throughout the years. When Denise felt the Lord call her to do something, she answered eagerly and with a gracious and giving heart. She especially cherished the time she spent working with the children’s program. Denise often expressed her love through delicious home-cooked meals, happily spending hours in the kitchen preparing everyone’s favorite dishes. Her favorite way to unwind was by quilting, creating many beautiful quilts that she would lovingly gift to family and friends. Denise considered the hours of work and aching hands worth it to see the recipient’s face light up when receiving one of her quilts. Later in life, she found the greatest fulfillment in her role as a grandmother, spoiling each grandchild with love and affection. Denise also found joy in spending time with her daughter’s puppies, whom she loved dearly. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Michael Harris and D.E. Harris.
Denise is survived by her beloved husband of 25 years, Larry Hairr of Batesville, MS; daughters, Sherry Slay and her husband, Bradley, of Katy, TX and Amy Turner and her husband, Ross of Olive Branch, MS; sons, Robert Seay and his wife, Carie, of Bossier City, LA and Scott Seay and his wife, Denise, of Russellville, AR; brothers, Rick Harris (Gail) of Panama City, FL, Mark Harris of Richmond, VA, and Daniel Harris of Richmond, VA; as well as 16 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
