Mrs. Clara Christine Lee Bryant, 95, died Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at Baptist Memorial Hospital – North Mississippi. The funeral will be Friday, March 28, 2025, at 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel of Waller Funeral Home with Bro. Roy Hartzell and Bro. Maurice Bryant officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 10:00 A.M. Burial will follow the service in Philadelphia Cemetery.
Christine was born on November 10, 1929, in Etta, Mississippi, to the late Clara Carnell and Robert Eugene Lee, Jr. A graduate of Macedonia High School Class of 1946, she continued her education at Blue Mountain College for 2 years, and enrolled in various classes at The University of Mississippi. In 1951, Christine married her beloved high school sweetheart, David Bryant, celebrating 73 wonderful years of marriage before his passing in 2024. Their wedding was held at Philadelphia Baptist Church, which held a special place in their hearts throughout their life together.
Christine taught school for three years before beginning her career as a secretary in Clarksdale, MS, until 1956. She then began keeping books for the family farm until her retirement in 2016. As members of the Hollywood Baptist Church in Sledge, Mississippi, Christine modeled for her children the importance of church family and serving the Lord. She volunteered her time often and wherever needed, serving in various roles throughout the years including teaching Sunday school, Vacation Bible School, and was an active member of the Women’s Missionary Union. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James David Bryant, Sr.
Christine is survived by her sons, James David Bryant, Jr. (Loni) and Donald Eugene Bryant (Connie), both of Sledge, MS; five grandchildren, Neeley Baker (Chip) of Southaven, MS, Andrew Bryant of Chicago, IL, Jordan Bryant of Sledge, MS, Carter Bryant (Brooke) of Sledge, MS, and Baily Bryant (Lynlie) of Sledge, MS; and four great-grandchildren, Ansley Baker, Lacey Bryant, Addie Mack Bryant, and Caroline Bryant.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to caretakers Donna Wimberly and Connie Mayo for the diligent and loving care they provided to Christine.
