Susan Kile McMillan

October 15, 1946 ~ January 5, 2026

Mrs. Susan Kile McMillan, 79, died Monday, January 5, 2026, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi, Oxford, MS. She was born in Jackson, MS to the late Howard and Clarene Kile.

Susan attended Mississippi University for Women and Millsaps College before graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Medical Records Science from the University of Mississippi Medical Center in August of 1967. She worked in healthcare administration her entire professional career beginning as a registered records administrator and within a year was the assistant director of medical records at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. During the 1960’s and 1970’s her work took her all over Mississippi. From Tupelo, Fulton, Water Valley, and Oxford to Jackson in hospitals and medical centers to private doctor offices. During the 1980’s she was Director of Medical Records at the Oxford-Lafayette County Hospital. Susan was also very active in her professional societies serving as President of the Southeastern Medical Records Conference in 1985 and then as the Director of the Southeastern Medical Records Conference in 1986. She served as the Director of Medical Review/Risk Management from 1987 until 1996 at Oxford-Lafayette Medical Center/Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi. She became a consultant and senior coding specialist at Information and Quality Healthcare until retirement in October 2012. Mrs. McMillan also made lifelong friends as a member of Beta Sigma Phi.

In retirement, she enjoyed her grandchildren, her dogs (Kilo and Angus), and extensive volunteer work at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church where she served on the Altar Guild, as an usher for Sunday morning services, and volunteered in the church office. She enjoyed meeting people when working with her husband John and Rock Solid Pens. She loved the Mississippi Gulf Coast, New Orleans, and jelly beans. But she always dreamed of living on an island somewhere frolicking with unicorns.

Mrs. McMillan is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Dr. John McMillan. She is survived by her daughter, Amanda McMillan Urbanek (Jim) of Oxford; her son, John “Johnny” McMillan, Jr. (Mary Lea) of Oxford; four grandchildren, Andie McMillan, Kaitlyn Urbanek, Evan Urbanek, and Celia Day Urbanek; and her two beloved dogs, Angus and Kilo.
