Shirley Ann Hughes Mounce

Mrs. Shirley Ann Hughes Mounce, 81, died Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at Oxford Health and Rehab. Services will be held at a later date.

Born on October 17, 1944, in Pontotoc, MS to the late Jesse and Lily Belle Swann Hughes, Mrs. Mounce was the widow of Mr. Marcus H. Mounce. She was a retired seamstress and carried her skill into quilting, a hobby she treasured. She loved playing piano, tending to her home and raising her boys but was most overjoyed when she became a grandmother. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were blessed to spend a lot of time at her home where she made sure they never went without a homecooked meal. Her family and friends were often spoiled by her famous homemade biscuits and chocolate gravy! Mrs. Mounce was a longtime and faithful member of Ecru Baptist Church in the community where she lived most of her married life. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Lorene Rivera ad Hazel Kisor and four brothers, Hoyal Hughes, Leighton Hughes, J.D. Hughes and Billy Hughes.

She is survived by her sons, Eddie Mounce and his wife, Paula of Oxford, Tim Mounce and his wife, Dr. Katie Clement of Chapel Hill, NC and Willie Cleve Mounce and his wife, Yolanda of Tupelo, MS; seven grandchildren, Ryan Mounce, Abby Mounce, Charlie Mounce, Grace Mounce, Christian Mounce, Tierra Zinn and Skiyah Mounce and two great grandchildren, Harmoni Young and Harlei Young.
