Bernice Fortner Ferguson

November 24, 1928 – January 10, 2020

Ms. Bernice Fortner Ferguson, 91, of Vardaman strolled peacefully into heaven on January 10, 2020 at Baptist Memorial Nursing Home in Calhoun City. She was born on November 24, 1928 in Mantee, Mississippi to the late Joseph Ocie and Myrtle Henley Fortner.

Bernice served as a homemaker with the most important job of mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She loved her family and cherished the time spent with all of them, but she especially loved cooking for her family. Bernice enjoyed Bonanza, the Virginian and Westerns she also enjoyed the Golden Girls. She was an member of New Liberty Baptist Church where she worshiped her Lord.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Leo Ferguson and two brothers, James Fortner and Neal Fortner.

She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Ferguson Hamilton of Vardaman, MS. and her son, Tom (Mary Lee) Ferguson of Vardaman, MS, a sister, Frances Ashby of Memphis, TN. two brothers, Bobby (Bonnie) Fortner of Memphis, TN and Howard Fortner of Andalusia, AL., Four grandchildren, Danielle Stewart, Alicia (Dereck) Ferguson, Erin (Eric) Tedder and Andrew Hamilton along with five great grandchildren, EnJoli Ferguson, Dylan Decuir, Layne Tedder, Emory Tedder and Fulton Tedder.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 12, 2020, from 1:30 PM until 2:30 PM at Parker Memorial Funeral Home in Vardaman, MS. A Celebration of life service will be in the funeral home chapel beginning at 2:30 PM with Bro. David Westmoreland officiating. Upon conclusion of the service Ms. Ferguson will be laid to rest in the Rocky Mount Cemetery in Pittsboro, MS. Dereck Decuir, David Goodson, Thomas Earl Goodson, Andrew Hamilton, Emory Tedder and Eric Tedder will serve as pallbearers.
