Georgie Mae Moore “Sister”, returned to her heavenly home on August 6, 2018, after a valiant battle with a long illness. Her devotion to her family and her firm belief in God supported her in the health challenges she faced and ultimately gave her peace.
Georgie was the firstborn of ten to the late Willie and Gertrude Cunningham. Georgie accepted Christ at an early age under the pastorate of the late Rev. James A. Parson at Zion Springs Baptist Church in Egypt, MS. Sister as the family affectionately called her, was a lover of music and served as a pianist at her local church. Georgie graduated from Meridian Street High School and furthered her education by attending Okolona Junior College and Ole Miss. Georgie was an educator at heart; she successfully owned and supervised a school in Oxford, MS for many years.
Georgie met and married the late Reverend McConner T. Moore. To this union two sons were born, Cecil S. Moore and McConner T. Moore Jr.
Georgie leaves to cherish her memories, her sons Cecil S. Moore (Linda) and McConner T. Moore Jr. (also known as Connie); her grandchildren Lakesha Bland and Harrison Moore; her great-grandchildren Layla K. Flakes, Jada S. Flakes and Kaylen A. Flakes, her sisters Verniece Standfield (Gary, Ind.), Winifred Harrison (Dallas, TX), Merthell C. Sanders (Baton Rouge, LA) and Earline Larry (Racine, WI); her brothers Jerry Cunningham (Olona), Birmingham, AL, Olinford Cunningham (Edna), Okolona, MS, and Walter Cunningham (Linda), Aberdeen, MS; and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Rev. McConner T. Moore; her parents Willie and Gertrude Cunningham; her brothers Willie and Sidney Cunningham; and her youngest sister Rhonda Jean Cunningham.
