Hugh Allen Shaffer

Mr. Hugh Allen Shaffer, 78 of West Point, MS, passed away at his home on Wednesday, February 5, 2020. He was born on October 4, 1941 in Webster County to late Purvis and Mary McKee Shaffer. He was very well known to the racing community as "Rockin' Robin." He raced dirt cars for 46 years. He started his career as a local truck driver with Camel 66 and Robinson Truck Lines, until he started his own trucking company, K&R Systems in 1976 where he drove over the road. After retiring in 2006 from trucking, he then started in the scrap iron business, which he operated until 2015. He enjoyed fishing, spending time with his family, watching western movies and going to the races every chance he got. He married Patricia Ann Smith on December 24, 2006, in Steens.

Visitation will be Friday, February 7, 2020 from 5:00-8:00 PM at Calvert Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Saturday, February 8, 2020, at 2:00 PM from Calvert Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Chris Craven officiating and assisted by Brother Jack Dauphin. Burial will follow in Mt. Moriah Cemetery near Eupora. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements.

He is survived by his wife of thirteen years, Patricia Pennington Shaffer, two sons, Kim Shaffer (Debbie), Randy Shaffer (Nita), one brother, Robert Shaffer (Kathy), three stepsons, Kenny Pennington (Brandy), Alan Pennington (Jeanna), Darryl Pennington, sixteen grandchildren and twenty-six great-grandchildren. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers: Thomas Earl and Joe Ivy Shaffer and one stepson Lane Pennington.

Pallbearers will be Daniel Rosamond, Chase Pennington, Justin Poole, Kenny Pennington, Darryl Pennington,Alan Pennington and Billy Duke.

Honorary Pallbearers are all of his racing family and friends.
