Jerry Gates was born May 26, 1954 to Mrs. Mablean Blackmon and Howard Gates. He confessed hope in Christ at an early age and joined Jollys Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. Jerry had a passion for singing and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Jerry sang with The Southern Travelers for many years and a host of different groups. He worked as a farmer and entrepreneur.
He leaves to cherish his memories: his daughter, Lois Ann Gates; his mother, Mablean Blackmon, one brother, Wares Gates; three granddaughters, Maricka Moore, Kaleshia, and Arionna Morrow and one great-granddaughter, Serenity Moore, and a host of cousins and aunts.
He was proceeded in death by his grandparents, Eula Gates, Ruthie Abbott, and Murphy Abbott.
