Johnnie Mae Burney Hall

Johnnie Mae Burney Hall, born on July 24, 1927 in Nettleton, Mississippi, was the first born child of John Winster Burney and Odessa Vales Burney. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, all of her siblings~ Lavel Burney, Nimmie Milfred Burney, Leola Burney James, Idessa Burney Harris, Winston Burney, and one grandson~ Lawrence Sterlyn Fields.

Johnnie accepted Christ as her personal savior around the age of 10 years and joined Spring Hill Missionary Baptist Church of Nettleton under the leadership of Rev. Will Ernest Boose. She was a faithful member serving in various church ministries~ as church secretary, missionary and usher until her health failed. Johnnie Mae met the love of her life and was united in holy matrimony on June 2, 1946. She and (Brud) Sammy Clifton Hall, Sr. enjoyed 64 beautiful years of wedded bliss before he passed away in 2010. From their union, six children were born.

Most of her life was dedicated to caring for her family, and she worked many years at Blanton’s Cleaners before finally retiring. Johnnie was well-loved by not just her children and grandchildren, but by all of her many nieces and nephews, and neighbors.

On Monday morning, May 6, 2019, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, MS, Johnnie Mae Hall peacefully answered the Master’s call and went to her eternal home. Her precious memories will be cherished by four sons~ Sammy C. Hall, Jr. of Baldwyn, MS, Stanley Hall of Grand Rapids, MI, Steven Hall (Teresa) of Nettleton, MS, and Glenn Hall (Pauline) of Nesbit, MS; two daughters~ Doris Brownridge of Grand Rapids, MI and Edith Diane Finnie (James) of Nettleton, MS; 17 grandchildren, 3 adopted grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, 7 adopted great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, other relatives, neighbors, and friends.
