Mary Evelyn Chrestman, 79, of Oxford, MS went to her heavenly home on Thursday, July 4, 2019. Mary was born October 21, 1939 in Bruce, MS. She was a long term member of First Baptist Oxford where she taught Sunday School and helped organize the XYZ Senior Citizens program. She was a member of the Oxford Ladies Investment Club and Breast Cancer Support Group. In 1974, she became a member of the David Reese Chapter of the Colonial Dames. In 2002, she became treasurer of the Dames. She also worked with Save a Life in Lafayette County. Mary received her B.S. and M.S. in Library Science from the University of Mississippi. She retired from the University of Mississippi in 2005 where she was a librarian. She enjoyed traveling around the world with friends and worked with a sewing group that made dresses for children in third world countries. The granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles G. Murphree and Mr. and Mrs. L.F. Chrestman, Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Elmo and Vaudie Chrestman; her sister, Mauveline Bond; brothers-in-law, Carol Wayne Bond and Billy Joe White, and nephews, James and Philip Bond. She is survived by her twin brother, Charles Chrestman (Wanda); brother, Gale Chrestman (Angie); sisters, Jane White and Nancy Smith (Billy); twelve nieces and nephews, and a host of great and great-great nieces and nephews. The family will gather to receive friends Friday, July 5th from 5 to 8 p.m. at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church 18 CR 130A Bruce, MS 38915. The funeral will be held Saturday, July 6th at 11 a.m. at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church with Bro.Kevin Chrestman leading the service ,and assistance from Bro.Kerry Bond ,and Bro.Don Gann. Benjamen Jeffery, Bryce Chrestman, Colt Chrestman, Craig Chrestman, Mike Smith, Mike Williams, Ricky White, Walker Chrestman, and Xander Maness will serve as pallbearers; Honorary Pallbearers will be the outstanding men of her family. Memorial contributions may be given in Mary’s honor to Mt. Moriah Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
