Mr. Hughie Gene “Gobbler” James, 83, died Sunday, May 3, 2020, at his home in Pontotoc, MS. A private graveside service will be held in Springhill Cemetery with Rev. Jimmie D. Carr officiating. Waller Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Born in Lafayette County to the late William Cooper and Ruby Ratliff James, Mr. James was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He retired from the City of Oxford where he worked as a mechanic for the water department. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Stacks James.
Survivors include four daughters, Ann Mooneyham and her husband, Howard of Water Valley, MS, Renea James of Pontotoc, MS, Kay Leamond and her husband, Ross of Oxford, MS and Kerrie Kelly and her husband, Jerry of Pontotoc, MS; ten grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
