Romie Jernigan

July 7, 1946 – May 14, 2020

Romie Jernigan, 73, was born on July 7, 1946, to Prentiss Jernigan Jr. and Clemmie Adams Jernigan.

He departed this life surrounded by his family on Thursday, May 14, 2020, at North Mississippi Medical Center.

He accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age at Blackwood Grove Missionary Baptist Church. In January 1968, he married Ary Kay Cox. To this union two children were born, Rubin Jernigan and Levert Jernigan.

Romie was a loving father and an awesome grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed visiting family and friends, riding four-wheelers, and listening to the blues. He loved passing on life lessons and wisdom he had received from his older family members.

He leaves to cherish his two sons, Rubin Jernigan of Tupelo, MS and Levert Jernigan, Sr. (Michelle) of Nettleton MS; A beloved life partner, Linda Walker Huddleston of Nettleton, MS; Two Stepchildren, Tynisha Terry (Raphael) of Wren, MS and Derrick Huddleston of Shelbyville, IN; Thirteen grandchildren, Dimaio Goree (Brooke) of Duncanville, TX, Jarvitus Jernigan of Columbus, IN, Brayla Jernigan of Murfreesboro, TN, Ra’Shun Jernigan of Nettleton, MS, Levert (Jay) Jernigan, Jr. of Nettleton, MS, Emmari Jernigan of Tupelo, MS, Derrick Huddleston, Jr., Drake Huddleston, Gabrielle Terry, Kennedy Terry, Kelsey Chapman, Marcus Huddleston, Kyla Huddleston; and three great-grandchildren, Jordan Jernigan, Landen Jernigan, and Madison Goree, one sister Helen Wilson and three brothers Tommie Lowe, James Jernigan and Travis Jernigan; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one stepson, Marcus Huddleston, and two brothers, Verlie Jernigan, and Robert Jernigan.

  • At Fields Funeral Home, we are committed to the following guidance from the National Funeral Directors Association (NFDA) on conducting visitations and funerals during the COVID-19 pandemic. NFDA strongly recommends that, until further notice, visitations and funerals are limited to no more than 10 of the decedent’s next-of-kin. However; this does not include funeral home staff, the clergy/celebrant, or cemetery staff. For this reason, at our funeral home's request, visitation guests wearing PPE will only be admitted entrance one by one into the church sanctuary and will remain in their vehicles until permitted to enter at the instruction of Fields Funeral Home funeral attendants.

  • At Fields Funeral Home, we are committed to the following guidance from the National Funeral Directors Association (NFDA) on conducting visitations and funerals during the COVID-19 pandemic. NFDA strongly recommends that, until further notice, visitations and funerals are limited to no more than 10 of the decedent’s next-of-kin. However; with public gatherings held outside, attendees will be limited to 20 members of the immediate family.  All attendees must wear face coverings and maintain a 6-foot distance between themselves and others. this does not include funeral home staff, the clergy/celebrant, or cemetery staff. For this reason, at our funeral home's request, only immediate family members will be able to attend the funeral services of Mr. Romie Jerigan.
