Margarita Diaz-Escobar, 71, passed away Saturday, May 16, 2020, at her home in Booneville. She was born in Corozal, El Salvador on December 12, 1948, to Angel Diaz and Clementina Peraza Diaz. She enjoyed reading, traveling; notably, a pilgrimage to the Holy Land, gardening, and helping the less fortunate by donating food and caring for the ill.
She was a dedicated member of her catholic church, including Maternity BVM in Chicago, IL, as well as St. Francis of Assisi in Booneville. She has been described as a pillar of the church community at St. Francis. She was always evangelizing by her actions and found many searching souls in her day to day life. She was a part of the Belmont community before it was established as a regular place of worship. She would drive people to church and to appointments, and enjoyed visiting. Her example, her smile, and her encouragement will be missed by all.
Funeral services will be 7:00 PM Tuesday, May 19, 2020, at the Booneville Funeral Home with Father Mario Solórzano and Pastor Alberto Burciaga of TBC officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 until service time. A graveside service and burial will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, May 20, 2020, at Booneville Cemetery. Booneville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by her husband, Juan Escobar; son, Luis Angel Escobar-Diaz from Booneville; daughter, Margie Cristina Escobar-Diaz from Chicago, IL; brother, Carlos Orlando Diaz and wife Flor Diaz from Fort Wayne, IN; sisters, Elena Mejia and husband Efrain from Booneville, Rubenia Diaz Peraza of Fort Wayne, IN, and Rosa Alicia Smith from Jackson, TN; one granddaughter, Sugeily Castro Escobar from Chicago, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Reyes Alas Peraza.
Pallbearers will be Luis Angel Escobar-Diaz, Vincente Montanez Flores, Carlos Orlando Diaz, Juan Escobar, Jose Roberto Olvera, and Jimmy Smithson. Honorary pallbearers will be Pastor Alberto Burcianga and Antonio Cerros.
