Hong “Rose” Buckner

Shannon – Hong Thi Nguyen Buckner, passed away on Monday, June 1, 2020, in Atlanta, Georgia. Born on December 23, 1965, in Vietnam, she was the daughter of Thuy Thi Nguyen and Thanh Nguyen.

Hong grew up in Vietnam within a family where she was one of three daughters. She married the loved of her life, Richard Eugene Buckner, on August 26, 1989. Together they were blessed by God with three daughters. Hong believed in God and was of the Catholic faith. A true giving person, she always took care of her family above all other things.

She had a great work ethic and together with her husband, Richard, she owned and operated a successful business, Star Nails Salon in Tupelo. She enjoyed working alongside with her family in a thriving business and they were all real close. A woman who served the public tirelessly for many years, she always did her very best to make others feel special.

Hong was proud of her daughters and their accomplishments in life. In her free time, she enjoyed cooking for friends and family, gardening, shopping and traveling to various places with her husband and family. Listening to Vietnamese music was one of her favorite ways to unwind. Above all, her favorite past time was spending time with her grandchildren, whom she loved dearly.

Her family is so grateful for being blessed with Hong in their life, a great mother, daughter, and grandmother. She leaves behind a legacy of wonderful memories to be cherished by her family and friends forever.

Hong is survived by her three daughters, Suelynn Parker (Corey), Rathdrum, Idaho, Starlynn Merrell (Devon), Hinesville, GA, and Shaelynn Buckner, Shannon; mother, Thuy Thi Nguyen, Shannon; grandchildren, Evangelia Groves, Serenity Merrell, and David Elan Parker; sisters, Elvy Duong, and Phoung Nguyen; nieces and nephews, Lisa Brackeen, Keven Duong, Nathan Duong, Paul Buckner, Timothy Buckner, Braxton “Samson” Buckner, Sommer Buckner, and Damyen Rodriguez.

She was preceded in death, by only one day, by her loving husband, Richard Eugene Buckner.
