Mr. Edward “Ed” Earl Kannada, 87, died Tuesday, July 7, 2020, at his home in Oxford, MS. The funeral service will be Thursday, July 9, 2020, at 1:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Waller Funeral Home with Rev. Gerald Shook and Rev. Dan Robinson officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service beginning at 12:00 noon at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Anchor Baptist Church Cemetery.

Born in Marvell, AR to the late Roosevelt Kannada and Edna Pinion Kannada Keller, Mr. Ed was a longtime member of Anchor Baptist Church and a participant of Methodist Cursillo of Mississippi. He retired after 30 years from the University of Mississippi where he worked as Chief Mechanic of the UM Physical Plant. Mr. Kannada was an avid sportsman, enjoying all outdoor activities including fishing and gardening, and was thought by many to be the best crappie fisherman in North MS! He was a mentor to many and volunteered his time playing, coaching and umpiring softball through the Oxford Park Commission. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Kay Bounds, a son-in-law, John A. “Johnny” Coleman, and a sister, Billie Jean Kannada Bauer. 

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Venera A. Kannada of Oxford; a daughter, Gayle Coleman-Yendt and her husband, Bill of Tupelo, MS; a son, Michael Kannada and his wife, Fonda of Oxford, MS; a son-in-law, Greg Bounds of Oxford, MS; a brother, Max Keller of Madison, MS; a half-sister, Peggy Ruth Belveal of Orland, CA; a half-brother, Roy Kannada of Phoenix, AZ; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions in Mr. Kannada’s memory may be made to Anchor Baptist Church Building Fund, 1009 Hwy 7 South, Water Valley, MS 38965.
