DAVID “BUTCH” CRAYTON

December 26, 1946 ~ July 4, 2020 (age 73)

David “Butch” Crayton was born December 26, 1946 to the late Gatherine Crayton and Henry D. Berry. David was born and raised in New Albany, MS, where he later relocated to Memphis, TN. David professed his hope in Christ at an early age and was an active member of St. Paul Baptist Church in Ecru, MS, and also sang with a gospel group. David later returned to Pontotoc, MS where his three children were born: Angela, Randal, and DeWann.

David served his country as a Private and Specialist during the Vietnam War and Persian War, where he earned the Marksman Rifle M-16 Badge, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Air Medal, and one Overseas Service Bar. David also completed his training in Code of Conduct, Military Justice, and CBR (Chemical, Biological, and Radiological Defense). He received honorable discharge. Once he returned, his career began with Cedar Nursing Home as a CNA. He also worked in construction, a furniture factory, and the Steel Corporation. David also loved to D.J., where the people called him “D.C.” or “Disco Butch.”

David leaves to cherish his memories, one sister: Patsy (C.L.) Howell, one daughter: Angela (Jeffery) Traylor, two sons: Randal (Jessica) Crayton and DeWann Crayton, and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, and one brother.

Visitation walk through will be Thursday, July 9, 2020, from 1-5 PM at Payton Mortuary. Masks are required. Graveside service will be Friday, July 10, 2020, at 2 PM at the Pontotoc City Cemetery.
