Melissa “Missy” Gail Tackett

Smithville – Melissa “Missy” Gail Tackett, 52, passed away on Wednesday, July 8, 2020, at her residence in Smithville. Born on November 2, 1967, she was a daughter of Thomas Wayne Tackett and Helen Lynn Baughman Tackett.

Missy grew up in Amory and attended Amory High School. Her grace and kindness to others cultivated many friendships while in high school as well as throughout her life. She was a sweet, genuine servant; when she was needed, she was always there for her family. Missy left high school early to help care for her parents. Dedicated and loyal, this became her job for the rest of her life. She happily cared for them and she was always one to put others first. Missy was a wonderful sister and loving aunt, and was a strong woman who had a huge heart. Missy was very proud of her nephew, Tyler, and the young man he had become.

Her life was a testament to others on how to be selfless and serving, as Jesus did for us. Three weeks ago she rededicated her life to Christ and her faith meant everything to her. Missy demonstrated her faith daily through her actions. In her free time, she liked to sing, listen to gospel music, and sing while playing the piano with her mother sitting by her side. Missy took great care of her family and always enjoyed finding great deals when coupon shopping. Some of her closest friends were Jerry, Carol, Jeff and Christy. She was an avid baseball fan and she especially liked cheering on the Chicago Cubs.

Her family is saddened by her passing yet they know that she has started her new life with God. She had touched many lives and her faith was amazing. Missy touched the hearts of everyone who was blessed to know her. She will be dearly missed, but the memories she shared will live on forever.

Missy is survived by her parents, Wayne and Helen Tackett; sister, Cindy Collums (Mike); and nephew, Tyler Collums.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Louie and Floyd Baughman, and R.A. and Mattie Tackett.

A graveside service will be held at 11AM on Saturday, July 11, 2020 at Young Memorial Gardens in Smithville. Pallbearers will include Mike and Tyler Collums. Honorary pallbearers will be Dalton Jones, Chris Edwards, and Steve Chism.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Med-Sat, Smithville Fire Department and the EMR teams consisting of Mike, Tyler, Amber and Alex.

In lieu of flowers, donations and memorials may be made to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital Foundation Dept., at P.O. Box 41817, Memphis, TN 38174-1817

  1. Tackett Family I am deeply sorry for your loss and would like to share an encouraging scripture with you. It is found at Acts 24:15 which says, “15 And I have hope toward God, which hope these men also look forward to, that there is going to be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous.” Here we see that God, whose name is Jehovah is going to bring our loved ones back to life. This is a time many people look forward to. I hope this message is a source of encouragement and comfort for the family.
