Susan Elizabeth “Susie” Schornhorst Romig, 55, passed away Tuesday morning, July 14, 2020, in Oxford, MS. A memorial service for Susie will be held at a later date.

Born in Washington, D.C. to the late Frederick T. Schornhorst and Virginia Scott Schornhorst. Susie grew up in Bloomington, Indiana. She was a talented diver on local swim clubs and at Bloomington High School South. Susie attended Indiana University. She spent many wonderful summers as a staff member at Camp Marimeta for Girls in Eagle River, Wisconsin. Susie always had a passion for travel. Whether it was in a vehicle driving across country, or a motorcycle adventure through Greece. Susie embraced adventure and new horizons. She lived in Denver, CO and Eugene, OR, among other places, before settling in San Francisco for 23 years. Susie moved to Oxford, MS in 2015 to be near family. Susie loved her pets and loved to spoil them. She enjoyed volunteering with the League of Women Voters and other local politically active organizations. She enjoyed playing Mahjong and loved seeing live music of any sort. It didn’t matter if it was in a Mississippi Delta Juke Joint, or an International Opera house, Susie’s passion for music ran the spectrum. She was equally comfortable discussing R.L. Burnside or Tom Waits as she was Wagner or Verdi.

Survivors include her mother, Virginia Scott Schornhorst of Oxford; two sisters, Elizabeth Ann Dean and her husband, Lee of Oxford and Mary Kathryn Parker and her husband, Alan of Grenada, MS; a brother, F. Scott Schornhorst and his wife, Katie of Oxford, numerous nieces and nephews, and her boyfriend, Ames Saunders of Oxford. She was preceded in death by her father, Frederick T. Schornhorst.

Memorial contributions in Susie’s memory may be made to MS Critterz, 413 McElroy Drive, Oxford, MS 38655.
