OKOLONA – Charlie Doss Lewis, 86, a man who had great admiration for the great outdoors God gifted us with, especially the mountains, departed this early pilgrimage on Thursday evening, July 16, 2020 from North Miss. Medical Center in Tupelo.  Charlie was born in the Egypt community south of Okolona on April 29, 1934, the son of the late Matthew Richard Lewis and Minnie Zula Shields Lewis.  He grew up in Chickasaw County and lived in this area most of his life except for a sabbatical in the Arkansas mountains near Mena, Ark. where he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and living a quiet, peaceful life for about 30 years. Charlie was a hands-on skilled carpenter and self-employed mechanic.   His business endeavors included owning an auto parts store, body shop, and the Massey Ferguson tractor dealership in Amory. Legend had it Charlie could just listen to a tractor’s engine and tell what was wrong with it.  He grew up with the Lewis family attending Boone’s Chapel United Methodist Church south of Okolona.
A brief service will be held at 11 AM Saturday, July 18, 2020 at Boone’s Chapel United Methodist Church.  Private burial will follow in the Lewis family plot at Boone’s Chapel Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 10:30 am-service time on Saturday only at the Church.  Holland Funeral Directors – Okolona Chapel is honored to be serving their friends.

Charlie leaves behind his caregiver, Bertha Earnest of Okolona; his brother, Cecil Lewis of Okolona, and his sister, Mabeline Easley of Houston; 2 neices, Sarah and Margaret, and a nephew, Ricky, and their families.  He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Dorothy Smith, and a nephew, Larry Easley.

  1. Dear Lewis family, you have my deepest sympathy in this sad time. The death of a loved one brings great pain and sorrow but you are not alone. Our loving God promises us that he will comfort us in times like these. 2 Corinthians 1:3,4
He also promises a resurrection at Acts25:15, so you can see your dear loved one again. Hope this brings you a measure of comfort.
