KENNEDY – Elizabeth Ann Burke Kennedy went to her heavenly home on July 15, 2020 at HOPE Memory Care Center in Dacula, Georgia.  She was born in Calhoun County, MS on December 19, 1938 to the late Owen Jackson and Cansie Ola Harrelson Burke.

Elizabeth was a graduate of Big Creek High School and Northwest Community College with a AA Degree in Business.  On August 23, 1958 she married the love of her life, Wayne Kennedy, and they enjoyed 61 years of marriage. They had two children, a son Phillip (Phil) Wayne and a daughter, Judy Elizabeth.

Although, Elizabeth was a wonderful wife, mother and housewife, she enjoyed working outside the home.  One of her favorite and most rewarding jobs was working in the church office at First Baptist Church of Merritt Island, Florida as the Educational Secretary with Dr. Adrian P. Rogers who pastor there from 1964 to 1972.  She also worked at the Weyerhaeuser Company, a timberland company, in Federal Way, WA for more than 28 years and retired as the Marine Insurance Manager.  Part of her responsibilities with Weyerhaeuser involved travel to several countries in Europe to train employees and to coordinate Insurance Coverage for cargo ships.

Shopping and decorating her home were Elizabeth’s favorite activities.  She had many opportunities to decorate since her husband’s career required them to move numerous times over the years.

Elizabeth was a member of Hebron Baptist Church in Dacula, GA, where she was a leader in her Sunday School class and worked in the Widow Ministry until she developed health problems.

Elizabeth is survived by her loving and devoted family that will carry her memory in their hearts for the remainder of their days; husband, Wayne Edward Kennedy, Hoschton, GA; a son, Phillip Wayne (Susan) Kennedy of Carlsbad, CA; a daughter, Judy Kennedy (Mark) Lanham of Dacula, GA; and her beloved grandson, Cole Kennedy Lanham of Dacula, GA and extended family members in Calhoun County, MS.

The family will receive friends on Friday, July 24, 2020 from 1:30 PM to 2:00 PM at the Shiloh Baptist Church, 77 County Road 327, Big Creek, MS 38914 (662-628-5949).  The Funeral Service honoring Elizabeth’s remarkable life will take place at 2:00PM at the church after the visitation with Pastor Mark R. Longino and Rev. Jimmy Vance officiating.  Members of the family will carry Elizabeth to her final resting place in the church cemetery adjacent to her parents and grandparents.  Flowers are accepted but those desiring may make memorial gifts to your local Alzheimer’s Association or American Cancer Society in memory of Elizabeth Burke Kennedy.

  1. Dear Kennedy Family, I would like to share an encouraging scripture with you. The scripture is Acts 24:15 where the Bible speaks of a resurrection. Yes God has promised to bring our loved ones back to life. I am deeply sorry for your loss, and hope you find comfort in this message
