Mr. James Thompson, 94, transitioned on Friday, July 24, 2020 at Holly Springs Health & Rehab in Holly Springs. 
James Augustus Thompson, Jr. was born February 7, 1926 to the late James A. Augustus, Sr. (Mr. Red) and Mildred Barbour Thompson.  
He was a WWII Veteran and witnessed the aftermath of Hiroshima.  His forefathers were veterans all the way back to the American Revolution. Throughout his life, the war caused him stressed; however, he was a wonderful family man that always smiled, was very witty, and had kindness for all that knew him.
He was an avid sportsman; he loved to fish, frog gig, hunt opossums and deer, although he said, “I can not ever bring myself to kill a deer.”
He retired from Byhalia Brick & Tile Co. after 33 years as a Foreman and served as a Deputy Sheriff for Marshall County.  He had a passion for loving people.  Besides his four children, there would also be four plus thirteen young children staying at his home in the summers and holidays.  He also fostered several children over the years.  The home was always filled with music, family, and friends.  He was so happy to have each and every one of the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren that came into his life.

He leaves behind his daughters: Judith Thompson Weatherly and Natha Jean Jackson, eight grandchildren: Mary Ann Weatherly, Truman Weatherly, James Thompson, Cynthia Haviland, Joy Matinolich, Misty Hudspeth, Justin Thompson, and Josh Thompson, 25 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandson, his niece: Lisa T. Bright, nephew: Mark D. Thompson, and their children.

He is preceded in death by his parents: James A. Thompson, Sr. (Mr. Red), his mother: Mildred Thompson, his wife: Addie Lee Tucker Thompson, three sons: Charles Jerry, James Dudley, and Aubrey Daniel, and his brother: Dudley Gibbons Thompson.

Graveside Service will take place on Saturday, August 1, 2020 at 1p.m. at Red Banks Cemetery in Red Banks, MS. Serenity-Autry Funeral Home of Holly Springs is in charge of the arrangements.

Visitation will be on Saturday, August 1, 2020 from 10:30a.m. until 12:30p.m. at Serenity-Autry Funeral Home Chapel in Holly Springs.

  1. Dear Thompson family, you have my deepest sympathy. The loss of a loved one brings great sorrow and pain that can be hard to deal with, but you are not alone. At 2 Corinthians 1:3,4 it says “The God of all comfort, comforts us in all our trials”, so you can gain comfort from God and his word the bible. Also Acts24:15 says “There is going to be a resurrection ” so you can see your loved one again. And this is a promise from our loving God. I hope this was a source of encouragement to the family.
