George Burns

November 15, 1943 – September 13, 2020

Celebration of Life Service for George H. Burns 76, are set for 11:00 am Wednesday at Wheeler Grove Baptist Church with Bro. Josh Westmoreland and Bro. Kara Blackard officiating with Wayne Odle doing the eulogy. Burial will follow in the Wheeler Grove Cemetery. Family will receive friends Tuesday from 5:00 to 8:00 and Wednesday from 10:00 to service time at Wheeler Grove Baptist Church.

George died September 13, 2020 at his residence. He was born November 15, 1943 in Alcorn Co. MS to the late G. B. and Myrtle Burns. George was a long time member of Wheeler Grove Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. Over the years he helped with VBS, Judgement House, youth and senior trips. He was a 1961 graduate of Kossuth High School, and a retired electronic technician, having worked at Wurlitzer, CTI and CMC. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and was a member of the North MS Bass Master Club. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandsons.

He was a preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Bettie Burns; parents, G. B. and Myrtle Perry Burns; brothers, James Burns, Roger Burns (Sandra); and a sister-in-law, Lorene Burns.

He is survived by his sons, Doug Burns (Amanda), Brandon Burns (Lynn); grandchildren, Collin Burns, Jake Burns, Archer Burns, Corey Burns; brothers, Jerry Burns, Leon Burns (Paulette); sisters, Sherry Putt, Paula Little; sister in-laws, Mary Ann Jackson, Toddie Burns; and host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Pallbearers: Billy Newcomb, Jimbo Wilkinson, Dwight Wilson, Ed Settle, Jimmy Harwood, Adam Fowler, John Morelock, and Van Carpenter.

Honorary pallbearers: Wayne Odle, Charlie Mask and the Deacons of Wheeler Grove Baptist Church.
