On Wednesday, October 7, 2020, Mildred W. Isom of Corinth, Mississippi died at the age of 102. Mildred was born on May 25, 1918 in rural McNairy County, TN to Onies and Bessie Wardlow. She lived in Corinth until just the last few years, when she moved to southern Indiana to be near her daughter and grandson.
Mildred loved her hometown of Corinth, graduating from Corinth High School and then marrying her sweetheart, Will Isom, in 1937. Following Will’s death in 1969, Mildred began a career as an administrative assistant at the Mississippi Department of State where she worked until her retirement.
Faith, family, friends and dogs were the joys of Mildred’s life. She was a life-long member of the Foote Street Church of Christ in Corinth. Mildred loved to learn and travel and visited 47 of the 50 United States. She was always a source of energy and laughter for family and friends who lovingly referred to her as ‘Mick’, ‘Aunt Mick’, ‘Gee Gee’ or ‘Grandmother Dear’. She had an incredible memory and told wonderful stories about her dogs and her life in Corinth. She will be deeply missed.
Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Will Isom, her parents and her sister, Grace Bush.
She is survived by her daughter, Jane Lyles; grandchildren, Julie Lyles Carr (Mike), Rob Lyles (Jill) and David Lyles (Teresa) and 16 great-grandchildren.
Donations can be made to Pine Vale Children’s Home, 1872 County Road 700, Corinth MS 38834.
