Johnny Ray Gunn was born on December 2, 1962, to the late Waurdell and Annie Kate Gunn in Okolona, Mississippi. Johnny attended Okolona High School. After graduating, Johnny Ray joined the Job Corps. Once completed, he came back home, found a job, and continued his service to God.
Johnny joined Red Bud Baptist Church at an early age and later in years, he became a member of the Pentecostals of Okolona.
Johnny Ray transitioned from this earthly life on Sunday, October 11, 2020, at his sister’s home. He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Waurdell Jr., Delois Gunn Deavers, and niece Michelle Gunn McGee. Johnny Ray leaves to cherish his memories his loving and devoted wife, Emma L. Gunn, sisters Barbara G. Nailor (Archie) of Tuscaloosa, AL, Mayetta G. Cunningham of Okolona, MS, Brenda G. Prewitt (Anthony) of Jacksonville, FL, brothers Willie Earl Gunn (Lisa) of Washington, DC, Pal T. Gunn (Shirley) of Jacksonville, FL, Brothers-in-law Calvin Gettis (Doris) of Cleveland, TN, Anthony Gettis of Aberdeen, MS, Sisters-in-law Elaine Ware, Doris Poe (Willie), and Barbara Page (Donald) all of Aberdeen, MS, one Aunt Beatrice Meriweather (George) of Grand Rapids, MI.; Nieces April Gunn, Barbara (Ms. Ann) Nailor, Alysia Nailor all of Tuscaloosa, AL, Tina Kay Gunn of Birmingham, AL, Sacora Massey of Jacksonville, FL, Lisa Fitzgerald (Damar) of Memphis, TN, Olivia Gunn, Washington, DC; Nephews Archie Nailor Jr. (Jennifer) of San Diego, CA, Calvin Ray Nailor of Tuscaloosa, AL, Treveon Gunn of Jacksonville, FL; Great Nieces Alexandria McGee of Guntown, MS, Michelle Gunn Nailor and Zion Gunn Sterling both of Tuscaloosa, AL, Destiny and Anna Gathings of Memphis, TN; Great Nephews Nigel Lavender, Elisha Gunn Nailor, Jensen Gunn Judah Gunn Sterling all of Tuscaloosa, AL and a host of cousins.
