Zata Mae Owen

February 18, 1930 – October 16, 2020

Zada Mae Adams Owen, 90, passed away on Friday, October 16, 2020. Born in the
Greenbrier area on February 18, 1930, she was a daughter to David and Willie Tate Adams.
Mrs. Owen attended Becker and Athens Schools and enjoyed playing on the high school
basketball team. Prior to her retirement, she worked for a number of years in the garment
industry as a seamstress. A traditional gamer, she played Bingo, Phase 10, and Canasta. She
was a champion at dominoes and was known as a brutal player. Above all, she most especially
enjoyed spending time with her family. You could often find her in her yard where she loved to
rake and she was an exceptional cook, especially for family gatherings. On several occasions,
she served as Grand Matron for the Eastern Star and she was very instrumental with the
American Legion Auxiliary. She was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church and she loved
the opportunities to travel “out west” to see her son and family.
