Wanda Joy Chrestman, 78, of Houlka left her earthly home on Tuesday, October 27, 2020, to enter her home in Heaven. She was born on May 1, 1942, to Clifton Reid Sr. and Bernice Bray Easley
Wanda, a 1960 graduate of Bruce High School, married her high school sweetheart, Charles, Chrestman, at the age of nineteen. Over the course of their fifty-nine-year marriage, Wanda and Charles enjoyed gathering with their growing family. Many birthdays and Christmas Eve celebrations were held in their home.
A faithful member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, Wanda served her Lord and Savior wherever she could from teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible school to working in the nursery and kitchen. Wanda worked as the Cafeteria Supervisor for Bruce Schools and later retired from her position as secretary/ bookkeeper for the Calhoun County District’s Food Service Department. Wanda also ran her own dress shop for a time and temporarily worked at House of Styles. In her spare time, in addition to serving the Lord, Wanda loved to travel. Apart from forty-nine states, she took many trips abroad.
Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, Clifton Reid Easley Sr. and Bernice Bray Easley as well as her step- mother, Mabel Easley, of whom she was the caregiver for many years.
Those left to cherish Wanda’s memory are husband, Charles Chrestman of Bruce, Mississippi; one brother, Clifton Reid Easley Jr. and his wife Carolyn of Bruce, Mississippi; two sisters: Roxie Russell and husband Oliver of Keysville, Georgia; Judy Jennings of Folsom, Louisiana; two children: Sherry (Michael) Smith of Guntown, Mississippi; Kevin (Jeannie) Chrestman of Bruce, Mississippi; three granddaughters: Chelsi (Shelby) Smith, Madison Chrestman, and Macey Chrestman; one great grandson, William Smith; as well as a host of nieces and nephews. Wanda will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.
The family will receive friends on Friday, October 30, 2020, at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church from 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM. The funeral service remembering Wanda’s life will take place in the Sanctuary of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church on Friday, October 30, 2020, at 2:00 PM with Bro. Jim Pinkerton and Bro. Joey Hamilton officiating. Wanda will be laid to rest in Mt.Moriah Cemetery.
