Listen to this obituary

Alice Arlene Rankin of Myrtle, Mississippi, age 72, was born on September 18, 1948 in Beulah, North Dakota and died October 31, 2020 at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, Mississippi.

Alice spent her childhood in Oregon and attended Hillsboro Union High School, Hillsboro, Oregon; and earned associates degrees as a denturist, in technology, and was a licensed practical nurse. She was a wizard with numbers and anything mechanical. She was willing to take risks and had a sense of adventure. She and her husband loved the outdoors, riding motorcycles, boating, fishing, hunting, and planting huge gardens. Alice canned everything you can imagine and then some. She was always prepared to feed an army. She loved to decorate for the holidays. She worked very hard and was known for doing anything she could to help others. She was stubborn. Her dimples lit up a room. She will be missed.

She was predeceased by her husband Walter Lee Rankin (2004) and by her parents, Fred and Esther Wallender, Hillsboro, Oregon. She is survived by her daughter Sonia (Brad Eric) Perkins, grandchildren Daniel, Brad Lee, and Shauna Marie of Thaxton, MS; and by her sisters Addy (Bill) Hesse and Maxine (Jack) Kilcrease, and her brothers, Fred Wallender and Wes (Karen) Wallender and many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews.

There will be a family graveside service with internment at Macedonia Cemetery, officiated by Brother Donnie Williams. Linda Hudson will be the soloist. Memorial donations may be made to her daughter Sonia Perkins. The family expresses thanks to all medical staff at Diversicare, Ripley, MS; and North Mississippi Medical Center, Tupelo, MS. United Funeral is in charge of all arrangements.
