Mr. William Leon Drewrey, 74, died Wednesday, November 11, 2020, at Baptist Memorial Hospital North MS. A graveside service will be held Friday, November 13, 2020, at 11:00 A.M. in Denmark Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Tommy Shroads and Rev. Allen Drewrey officiating.

Born on November 28, 1945 in Lafayette County to the late Edgar and Iola Anderson Drewrey, Mr. Drewrey was a founding member and deacon of Denmark Baptist Church. Even before the church building was constructed, Mr. and Mrs. Drewrey held worship services in their home.  His love of the Lord led him to witness to many people beginning their walk with Christ. His also enjoyed worship through music and was a singer in the southern gospel group “Canaanlanders” for 40 years. He was the longtime owner of L&M Auto Parts in Coffeeville, MS.  Following his his retirement from the parts store, he joined the staff of the Lafayette County School District as a transporter for special needs children.  He loved them and they loved him, affectionately calling him “Driver Driver”. The compassion he felt for others led him to host many benefits and fundraisers to assist charitable organizations and local families in need. Mr. Drewrey was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting deer and turkey and fishing.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Mary Joyce Drewrey of Oxford; a daughter, Donna Drewrey and her fiancé, Michael Champion of Oxford; one son, Robert Drewrey of Oxford; one grandchild, Michael Towery of Oxford and a host of family and friends.
