Jim Q. Tatum

Mr. Jim Q. “Brother” Tatum, Jr., 85, died Tuesday, November 17, 2020, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford, MS.  Burial will be in Browning Cemetery with no visitation or public service due to COVID-19 precautions. Waller Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Tatum was born in Taylor, MS, on June 9, 1935, to the late Grace Linder and Jim Q. Tatum, Sr.  He served in both the U.S. Army and the Army National Guard of Mississippi.  He was a life-long resident of Lafayette County and served two terms as District Four Supervisor.  Mr. Tatum was a member of Union West Baptist Church.  He enjoyed working as a self-employed truck driver, dirt work contractor, and was a retired farmer.  Mr. Tatum had been a Board Member for the North East Mississippi Electric Power Association since 1971. 

In addition to his parents, Mr. Tatum was preceded in death by his wife, Jewel Upchurch Tatum; his sisters, Katherine Collins, Jimmie Callicoat, and Martha Tatum; and his brother Frank Tatum.  

Mr. Tatum is survived by his children, Julia Tatum Bainer and her husband, Jeff, of Batesville, MS, Jim Q. Tatum, III and his wife, Karen, John Tatum and his wife, Rachel, and Joy Tatum Shideler and her husband, Kelly, all of Taylor, MS, and six beloved grandchildren, Jim Q. Tatum, IV and his wife, Maegan, Kelly Tatum Ingram and her husband, Tristen, Aaron Tatum and his wife, Tori, Sarah Jane Bainer, Emma Bainer and Sawyer Tatum.
