Listen to this obituary

Ravis Joe Winter, 71, of Vardaman passed from this life on Tuesday, January 5, 2021, at his residence. Born on October 29, 1949, in Houston, Ravis Joe was a son to the late Winfred Durell Winter and Margaret Maudine Langston Winter.

Ravis Joe married his loving wife Kathryn Crawford Winter on November 1, 1968. The couple spent a timeless fifty-two years together filled with children, grandchildren, and a countless number of memories made along life’s journey. He spent thirty years of his life behind the counter of Winter’s Pack-N-Snack, as the owner and operator, before selling the business and retiring to practice his hobbies fulltime. When the weather was right and the fish were biting, Ravis Joe could be found casting a line waiting to reel in a crappie. In addition to fishing, he enjoyed taking his grandsons for a spin on his John Deere Gator. Ravis Joe met all the biblical characteristics of a deacon, and as a true man of God, he served as a Deacon at New Hope Baptist Church. As part of his never wavering walk with the Lord and his enthusiastic love for studying Scripture, he shared the Gospel as a Sunday School teacher for over fifty years. He didn’t simply pass away; he held the cure to death in his soul, an active relationship with his Lord and Savior- Jesus Christ.

He leaves behind a loving family that will continue walking down the path of life in his absence: wife Kathryn Crawford Winter, son, Jeremy (Deanna) Winter of Vardaman, Mississippi, daughter, Jessica (Zack) Jourdan of Wetumpka, Alabama, two grandsons: Elijah and Jonah Winter of Vardaman, Mississippi, and brother DeWyane Winter of Vardaman, Mississippi.

The family will receive friends on Friday, January 8, 2021, from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM at New Hope Baptist Church in Vardaman.                    The funeral service celebrating Ravis Joe’s life will take place on Friday, January 8, 2021, at 1:00 PM in the Sanctuary of New Hope Baptist Church with Bro. Tommy Inmon officiating. William Chandler, Paul Edmondson, Johnny Holder, Barry Lester, J.T. Washington, Scott Washington, Austin Williams, and Matt Winter will carry him to rest in Ellzey Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be given in Ravis Joe’s name to New Hope Baptist Church, 200 Highway 341 South, Vardaman, Mississippi 38878. Ravis Joe was always willing to help family, friends, and countless strangers during his life without ever asking anything in return. We ask you to honor his memory by continuing his Christ-like example in service to others. Please, honor his life by continuing his great example.

The staff of Parker Memorial Funeral Home is honored to serve the Winter family and asks that you keep Ravis Joe’s loved ones in your thoughts and prayers as they pass through this difficult season of life.
