Aberdeen- Robert Jerry Smothers, 77, passed away on December 29, 2020at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.  He was born on March 11, 1943 in Aberdeen to the late Robert E. and Pat Walters Smothers. He was a 1961 graduate from Aberdeen High School. After graduation, Jerry worked for Walker Manufacturing until his employment at Kerr McGee where he retired with 37 years of service as supervisor of customer quality control-order placement.  He was a faithful and devoted servant to his Lord and to his church, First Baptist Church Aberdeen.  He served as an usher, Sunday School treasurer and counter.  After retirement, he enjoyed his McDonald’s daily coffee gang.  He enjoyed driving cars for Clark Ford, camping, daily visits with his friends, and taking his beloved companion Sophie for rides. He was devoted to his family and loved them dearly, especially his grandchildren. He had a great compassion for helping others in need.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, January 9 at 2pm at Odd Fellows Rest Cemetery in Aberdeen with Bro. Mike Tucker officiating and Ronnie Boozer speaking.

He is survived by his wife, of 57 years, Ann Dunn Smothers. His grandchildren Caitlin Gurley of Hamilton, his grandson Christopher Gurley (Miranda) of Tupelo, sister Donna Smothers Scarborough (Brent) of Phoenix, Arizona, brother Larry Smothers (Deborah) of West Point.  Three nieces, Mia Vick, Lori Davis and Brittany Ingversen. One nephew, Kirk Smothers. Special lifelong friends, Buford Easter and Alton Sandlin, also his beloved dog Sophie.

Preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Kimberly Smothers Gurley; and granddaughter, Jessica Nicole Gurley.

Pallbearers will be Alan Gurley, Duane Ott, Frank Bender, Chester Patterson, Jeff Grubbs and Jeff Fair. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Men’s Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church Aberdeen.
