James Huntley Steele, age 94, passed away on Saturday, January 30, 2021 at Baptist Reynolds Hospice House in Collierville, TN. He was born in Hazel, KY, on April 19, 1926 to James Henry and Dora Huntley Steele, and was raised in Puryear, TN. James joined the U.S. Navy at the age of 16. He worked at International Harvester as a mechanic and retired after many years of service from there. James was a member of Parkway Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. He loved gardening, auto mechanics, attending church services and being with his family.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at Rose Hill Cemetery in Houlka, with Rev. Tommy Inmon officiating. Browning Funeral Home in Pontotoc is honored to assist the family with the arrangements.
Survivors include his daughter, Charlotte Hampton (John) of Southaven, MS; two sons, James Huntley Steele, Jr. (Linda) of Olive Branch, MS and John Allen Steele (Diana) of Hernando, MS; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Dorothy Mae Zachary Steele and a sister, Dorothy Laura Underwood.
