John “Boots” Langford
Wren – John Clifton Langford finished his stay here on earth and met his Savior face to face on Saturday, February 13, 2021. Born in the Cotton Gin Community in Wren, MS, on July 8, 1933, he was the son of the late John Langford Sr. and Willie Mable Owings Langford.
John attended school at Wren School and was the Captain of his High School Basketball team. He met the love of his life, Inez Curry, while attending Wren School,and later, upon seeing her walk across the auditorium stage, he told his classmates “I’m going to marry that girl”. He did just that in 1952, and God blessed them with over 68 years of wonderful marriage and three daughters. John was nicknamed “Boots” by those who loved him and “Daddy Boots” by his grandchildren.
He initially worked at Tony's Bakery in Amory, and Pullman Couch Company before opening his own upholstery shop in 1971. Dedicated and hardworking, he worked in his shop, transforming furniture into beautiful pieces, that his customers enjoyed. Boots never retired and always welcomed new projects presented to him.
A man of strong faith, “Boots”, was a faithful member of Central Grove Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School and loved his church family. He was a true servant, and exemplified Christ, as he had a huge heart and would do anything for others and always saw the best in everyone, making them smile with his gentle and respectful demeanor.
Boots was giving, humble, very generous. His family and children meant the world to him. He volunteered to coach the boys’ baseball team in Wren for many years. He liked watching ballgames on tv as well as watching his grand and great grandchildren play sports. Young at heart, he liked fishing with the kids and he could still dive into a pool at the age of 80. Boots made priceless heirloom chairs for each of his grandkids which will be passed on for generations.
Through the years Boots touched so many lives with both his fine craftmanship of transforming furniture as well as his friendship and love. His family is saddened with his passing, yet they know that he is celebrating in heaven with Jesus.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Inez Curry Langford, Wren; daughters, Debra Milstead (Richard), Wren, Jeni Whitaker (Dennis), Wren, and Beth Frederick (Randy), Columbus; grandchildren, John Milstead, Rebecca Studdard, Leah Carpenter, Rachel Winters, Cara Carson, and Jess Whitaker, great-grandchildren, Mia, Holt and Graham Milstead , Curry Carpenter, Mary Briggs and Waverly Studdard, Ally Kate, Sawyer and Everly Winters; Rhett Pickle; Aniston Carson; brother, Bill “Son” Langford; special nieces and nephews, Dale Langford, Tommy Langford, Vickie Nowell, and Robert Langford.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Earl and Horace Langford.
Due to Covid concerns, there will be a private family service with Brother Dennis Smithey officiating. Pallbearers will be J.B. Adams, Curry Carpenter, Matt Carpenter, Robbie Carson, Bud Harlow, Johnny Paul Kyle, Chris Pickle, Rhett Pickle, John Milstead, Jerry Studdard, Jess Whitaker, and Wade Winters.
