Mattie B. Thompson

Mrs. Mattie B. Thompson, 93, transitioned on Sunday, March 7, 2021 at Yalabusha Nursing Home in Water Valley, MS.

MRS. MATTIE BELL THOMPSON was born to Mr. Benjamin and Mrs.  Caroline  Davis Couch on August  25th, 1927 in  Abbeville,  Mississippi. She gained her wings on Sunday, March 7th, 2021.

At an early age, she  accepted  Christ  as her Lord and Savior and became a member of Jeffrie Chapel M.B. Church in Abbeville. She faithfully served as an Usher on the Usher Board and was on the Motherboard for many years. She was the oldest mother of Jeffrie Chapel until death. She was also an active member of The John L. Webb, Grand High Court, Heroines of Jericho; court number 11 in Abbeville.

MATTIE  graduated  from Abbeville  School  District. Her  many careers ranged from being a homemaker, a cook, and even a private companion for seniors. She retired as a cook from Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority at The University of Mississippi. Her main hobbies included: cooking, gardening flowers, and upholstering furniture.

In 1945, MATTIE was united in Holy Matrimony to A.T. Thompson, and  to this  union  was born ten  children, Thomas  Henry Polk, Dorothy Bland, Mattie Ree Watson, Diana Thompson, James Thompson (Grace), Lawrence Thompson (Martha), John Glenn Thompson,  and Michael  Thompson (Alicia),  24  grandchildren, 37  great grandchildren, and 25  great-great grandchildren. She has one, living sister, Carrie Brannon, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Preceded in her death were her parents, Benjamin and Caroline Couch, husband, A.T. Thompson,  five sisters, Lena Mae Johnson, Artie Mae Hunt, Ettta Mae Isom, Rossie Lee Harden, and Jennie Lee Connerly, one brother, John R. Couch, and her two children, Mary Jo Thompson and Charles Thompson, and three grandchildren, Gregory Tinner, Doneitra Robinson, and Tanya Mathis.

Services will be held on Saturday, March 13, 2021 at 1p.m., at Serenity Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will take place at Jeffrie Chapel Church Cemetery in Abbeville, MS. Serenity Funeral Home of Oxford is in charge of the arrangements.

Visitation will be on Friday, March 12, 2021 from 1-5p.m., at Serenity Funeral Home Chapel in Oxford.
