James Herbert Little, 81, passed away on Wednesday, March 17, 2021 at his home. A Monroe County native, he was born on February 18, 1940 to Auzie and Ellen Marie Fears Little. He attended Smithville schools and was married Linda Newton on April 7, 1962. Prior to his retirement, he was a heavy equipment mechanic he owned and operated Little’s Combine Service and Little Bit’s Marine in Smithville where he worked on boat motors for many years. Herbert was an avid fisherman and taught his children and grandchildren to fish. He enjoyed collecting antiques of all kinds but most of all he was most proud of his family. A man of integrity, Herbert kept his word and displayed friendliness and humility at all times. In addition to his other hobbies, he had his own sawmill and loved to grow and cook down sorghum to make molasses. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 20, 2021 at Cleveland-Moffett Funeral Home in Amory with Bro. Tim McMillan officiating. Burial will follow in the New Hope Cemetery.

Survivors include one son, Tim Little (Amber) of Smithville; his daughter, Melanie Edwards (Bobby) of Smithville; one sister, Doris Hathcock of Smithville; his grandchildren, Anthony Little (Tiffany), Nathan Little, Rylan Little, Laycee Little, Malarie Sanderson (Bobby), Breanna Edwards (Taylor), Kaylee Frederick (Ethan), Tommy Joe Holland, Robert Edwards, Trinity Edwards, Bridgett Cassell, and Alexia Smith; great grandchildren, Kaylin Little, Sam Sanderson, Arlee Sanderson, Iris Sanderson, and Trent Sanderson; a host of niece and nephews and good friends, Paul Beasley family and Earnest Davis.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Little; brother, Huey Little; and his nephews, Barry and Kevin Sims.

Pallbearers will be Anthony and Nathan Little, Tommy Joe Holland, Taylor Maharrey, Bobby Sanderson, and Eddie Little.

Visitation will be on Friday evening from 5 until 8 at the funeral home.
