Larry Joe Vuncannon, 82, passed away Tuesday, July 6, 2021. Larry was born March 22, 1939, to Oscar Price Vuncannon and Eunice Juanita Whitson Vuncannon. SGT Larry Joe Vuncannon served in Troop B First Recon Squadron 108th Armored Cavalry of the Armed Forces of the United States of America.
He owned Larry’s Upholstery and Pier 57 Pizza. He enjoyed yard working, riding his tractor, putting puzzles together, and traveling to all 50 states.
Funeral Services with military honors will be Thursday, July 8, 2021, at 3:00 PM in the Chapel of Booneville Funeral Home. Visitation will be Thursday, July 8, 2021, from 12 o’clock noon until service time at the funeral home. Bro. Jeff Jones and Bro. Jimmy Clyde Hicks will be officiating. Burial will be in the Cain’s Chapel Cemetery. Booneville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Petrecia “Marie” Vuncannon; son, Larry “Keith” Vuncannon of Iuka; his puppy, Oscar; brother, Ray Vuncannon (Lynn) of Booneville; two sisters, Linda Chaffin of Booneville and Sara Sanders of Berry, AL; six nephews, Jeff Vuncannon, Brad Vuncannon, Jody Vuncannon, David Vuncannon, Steven Ashcraft and Mike Cain; nine nieces, Carol Chaffin, Angelia Tait, Christon Rushing, Tammy Manley, Melissa Gray, Kathleen Pounds, Denise Gillespie, Sherry Mize, and Gracie Vuncannon; twelve great-nieces, Casey Palmer, Lindsey Swindle, Victoria Mize, Ariel Ashcraft, Jasmine Manley, Erica Gray, Kayla Lindsey, Lilly Tait, Mady Tait, Madilynn Vuncannon, Lacey Cain Harris, and Anna Grace Vuncannon; thirteen great-nephews, Bryan Thacker, Brett Thacker, Jon Fuller, Brady Mize, Nathan Vuncannon, Issac Vuncannon, Cody Vuncannon, Storm Chaffin, Derrick Pounds, Hunter Cain, JJ Vuncannon, and Brandon Ashcraft. Larry had special traveling friends and family, Dirley and Rita Jones, Lacey Cain Harris, Blane Floyd, Mark Nichols, Kim Whitley Bingham, Adam and Ashlee Harris, Bradley Cain, Grant Gillespie and Sonny Cain.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Kenneth Vuncannon and Wayne Vuncannon; nephew, Mark Chaffin; niece, Mary Melissa Cain; great-nephew, Jordan Chaffin; and brother-in-law, Benny Chaffin.
Pallbearers will be Larry’s great-nephews. Honorary Pallbearers will be Noah Harris, Blane Floyd, Lee Murphy, Mark Nichols and Adam Harris.
In lieu of flowers memorials can be made in Larry’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105.
