Mrs. Venera Allen Kannada, 85, died Saturday, January 29, 2022, at Baptist Memorial Hospital – NMS in Oxford, MS. The funeral service will be held in the Chapel of Waller Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 1, 2022, at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. Gerald Shook officiating. Burial will follow in Anchor Baptist Church Cemetery. The visitation will be held prior to the service from 12:30 P.M. until service time.

Born in Sledge, MS to the late Willie Sydney and Pearlie Nicholson Allen, Mrs. Kannada was a member of Anchor Baptist Church where her dumplings were well loved at every church function. Venera loved taking care of her church family. The joy she found in cooking and serving others extended to her family and friends as she prepared meals for them all. Family and friends have reminders of her love in their memories of her and the lace angels that she made for each of them. She was a devoted wife and mother, always making sure that everyone else’s needs were taken care of before her own even though she lived with her own aches and pains. When asked how she was, she always replied, “I’m okay.” Venera was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 67 years, Ed Kannada; her loving daughter Kay Kannada Bounds; sisters, Willie Pearl Palmer, Jean Allen, Catherine Ainsworth and Syble Gamble; and brothers, Sydney Allen, Earnest Allen and Herbert Allen.

She is survived by her daughter, Gayle Coleman-Yendt and her husband, Bill, of Tupelo, MS; and a son Mike Kannada and his wife, Fonda, of Water Valley, MS; four grandchildren, Brian Kannada, Dustin Kannada, Leatha Willis and Ashley Freeman; and eight great grandchildren.
